"Watchmen" actress Regina King has addressed "fans" of the hit show who are less than pleased with the political nature of the HBO series. The program has maintained a near-perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes with a 94% fresh rating while the audience score is currently at 43% rotten, and that doesn’t really add up.

It hasn’t been long since the CW Arroverse show "Batwoman" got review-bombed, but it seems trolls are already at it again with "Watchmen." It isn’t a secret that many of its viewers have expressed they do not appreciate the political aspect of the adapted story.

King isn't standing for it. Speaking with Digital Spy, the actress offered her theory: "With some people, I wonder if it's one of two things: were you truly a fan of the graphic novel? Because if you were, you'd realize there was a political story in there.”

King continued, “... did it feel less political for you because you, as a white man right now, watching this, it's making you uncomfortable? Which one is it? A combination of both?"

King went on to urge the unhappy fans to “dig a little deeper” and tell potential viewers of this series to reserve their judgment until they see the entire show, watch it objectively, and to at least try to understand the source material.

According to Esquire, this kind of Rotten Tomatoes division is common with comic book releases that may have even the slightest hint of a political statement. "... the far right trolls are coming for HBO's new 'Watchmen' series—trolls that are mad online that the show has the audacity to say that white supremacy is...bad," reporter Matt Miller wrote.

Esquire cited one of these angry comments [via Digital Spy]: "They took my favorite comic series and used it as a vessel for delivering political/ ideological rhetoric. Was really looking forward to this."

"Watchmen" airs Sundays at 9 p.m. EDT on HBO.
