Some of Ritz Crackers products was recalled by Mondelez International amid a potential risk of salmonella. The Hanover, New Jersey-based company, said Sunday that 16 varieties of Ritz Cracker Sandwiches and Ritz Bits products in the United States were being removed from the market as a precautionary measure.

The company said so far no illnesses have been reported after concern over the ingredient whey powder. The recalled products include Cheese, White Cheddar, and Cream Cheese-flavored cracker sandwiches, in a variety of packages, with expiration dates from January to April of 2019.

Salmonellosis is a type of food poisoning caused by the Salmonella enterica bacterium, which is mostly caused by eating food contaminated by salmonella. The microorganism causes serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, sick or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of salmonella can begin 12 to 72 hours after a person is infected.

Most of the symptoms of a salmonella infection are stomach-related, including cramps in your stomach, bloody stools, diarrhea, cold and chills, fever, headache, vomiting and nausea.
