KJ Apa broke his silence after comedian Elijah Daniel questioned his stance over the Black Lives Matter protests.

The “Riverdale” actor fired back after Daniel questioned his silence amid the Black Lives Matter protests. Earlier this month, a fan suggested that Daniel should watch “The Hate U Give” starring Apa which features police violence and brutality.

“I love that movie but i do have a question, completely unrelated to the beef i formerly had with him, if KJ was the co-star of that movie why is he so silent?” Daniel responded on Twitter.

“He has such a massive young audience and got paid to be in a movie about police brutality and ... posted a black square?” he added.

On Sunday (June 14), Apa broke his silence by commenting on Daniel’s reply on social media. He also made it clear that he supports the black community.

“I don’t need to post about my opinions and beliefs in order for them to be real to me. I support black lives - but I don’t feel it’s necessary to prove to people I do by posting my attendance at these protests,” Apa .

However, Apa’s reply did not sit well with other online users. Many aired their opinions on why it is important for popular figures like Apa to share their voice on matters concerning the majority.

“I hope you realise that ‘I don’t need to post about my opinions and beliefs in order for them to be real to me’ just shows how privileged you really are. You’re not using your platform for good,” one commented.

“THIS!!! Like he doesn't even realize how convenient and more privileged it is for him to just say he doesn't need to post about it as a white person,” another added.

Meanwhile, several celebrities have joined the Black Lives Matter movement including Selena Gomez, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, and more. Gomez did not just shut down her Instagram, she also announced that she would let black leaders take over the account.

Just recently, Justin Timberlake and Billie Eilish aired their disappointment and anger over Rayshard Brooks’ death. Brooks was shot by an officer after he resisted arrest.
