‘Riverdale’ Stars Cole Sprouse, Lili Reinhart Refute Sexual Assault Allegations On Twitter

Cole Sprouse, who essays the role of Jughead Jones in Netflix’s thriller series 'Riverdale,' made a stand against the sexual assault allegations leveled at him and his castmates Vanessa Morgan, KJ Apa, and Lili Reinhart Sunday (June 21).

According to Sprouse’s anonymous accuser, the 'Riverdale' star molested her following a party at NYU in 2013. She went on to describe the nature of the alleged assault in following tweets prompting Sprouse to break his silence and defend himself.

Sprouse denied the allegations dubbing them the "latest claim in a series of incidents seeking to baselessly cancel" his castmates and him. "False accusations do tremendous damage to victims of actual assault. Furthermore, I would never seek to silence anybody. I encourage that people look into the accusations themselves, as the events detailed were factually untrue," the actor tweeted.

According to Buzzfeed, Twitter users doubted the veracity of the claims in light of them being made around the same time and targeting the cast members of the same show. His fans were also quick to point out the Twitter handles in question were made in the same format of a woman’s name followed by a bunch of numbers.

Soon after, the account that made allegations against Reinhart appeared to retract from its stance saying, "Do you see how easy it is to lie and you guys will believe it? Vanessa Morgan and Kj Apa didn't do jack shit. You will believe anything."

Reinhart, the former girlfriend of Sprouse, also spoke out in defense of Sprouse and herself. "I have always taken sexual assault allegations seriously. But it was proven that this account was created specifically to create false stories about me and my cast," she wrote minutes after re-tweeting Sprouse’s comments. Reinhart threatened legal actions against the accuser, insisting that “this kind of lie” tends to discourage the real survivors to come up with their truths and potentially ruins career and lives.

Morgan also re-tweeted Sprouse’s series of tweets to showcase her support.
