Rogan Says AI Gives Him ‘Crazy Hope.’ Wonders Whether An AI Led-World Would End All Wars.

While a significant part of the public debate now revolves around concerns related to the possibility that AI could endanger humanity, podcaster Joe Rogan said in a recent episode that AI gives him "crazy hope."

During an interview with physicist Carlo Rovelli, Rogan wondered whether the world would end up being a safer place if humans simply turned decision-making over to AI.

"I know that's terrifying to people but just think of the disastrous effects that we've had so far with humans doing it," Rogan said. "If all international military conflicts ended instantaneously upon AI governing the use of conflicts and military weapons, imagine that."

Most Americans are less hopeful regarding the prospects of the impact AI will have on humankind. A recent Politico poll found that two-thirds of Americans rate AI's potential to destroy humanity as "moderate."

The website reported that AI fear crosses political divides, with 70 percent of Vice President Kamala Harris supporters and 60 percent of President Donald Trump supporters holding the same position that AI is a "moderate" risk to destroy humanity.

The poll also found that 44 percent of Trump supporters support pausing development. About 40 percent of Trump supporters believe humans should continue moving forward.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has said that the potential risks of AI are real, although he also said the technology has potential for tremendous good.

"[L]ike many technologies before it, AI brings risks, and because it is such a powerful technology, these risks are serious," Amodei wrote. "They include the risk of losing control of AI systems, misuse of AI for cyberattacks and bioterrorism, and serious economic disruption. A race to the bottom, spurred by commercial incentives, can make these risks more acute."

"We must slow the pace at which we improve the capabilities of AI models. Progress will still seem fast, and we must make wise use of the time we gain," he said.

Although Rogan had hope for the potential of AI, he also expressed some concern over the technology and the unknown place it might have in our future: "AI taking over our world is f***ing horrifying," Rogan said.
