  • Fans were excited after learning that "Free Guy" is getting a sequel

A sequel for Ryan Reynolds' "Free Guy" is on the way.

"Free Guy" is projected to top the domestic box office this weekend with an estimated $26 million. The sci-fi action-comedy film is the first Disney movie to have a theatrical-only release in about a year amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Variety reported.

Amid its critical and commercial success so far, the "Deadpool" actor took to Twitter Saturday to announce that Disney has greenlit a "Free Guy" sequel.

"Aaaannnnd after 3 years messaging 'Free Guy' as an original IP movie, Disney confirmed today they officially want a sequel. Woo hoo!!" Reynolds tweeted, adding the hashtag "irony."

He included a GIF of Taika Waititi's character Antwan, who used the phrase "Albuquerque Boiled Turkey" in the movie. "If it isn’t called 'Albuquerque Boiled Turkey,' we've failed," Reynolds added.

The news was seemingly confirmed by 20th Century Studios, which retweeted Reynolds' post. Directory Shawn Levy also quote tweeted it and wrote, "Yuuuuuuuup."

Fans were excited after learning that they will be getting another "Free Guy" movie, with many congratulating Levy and Reynolds on the news.

"Congratulations. It was just such a fabulous movie. Millie/MolotovGirl was such a showstopper!" one fan commented, referring to Jodie Comer's character. "Also, that haunting rendition of fantasy was a wonderful addition. I look forward to what the gang has in store!"

"I admit I laughed at that part in the movie when they're talking about 'all people want these days are sequels!' And I thought 'okay but I would LOVE a 'Free Guy' sequel!'" another tweeted.

"Please let me be in 'Free Guy 2' as a streamer. I’m really cheap right now but by the time the sequel starts shooting, I'll probably be worth a lot more so I’d just get the contract done [right now to be honest]," Twitch streamer ConnorEatsPants commented on Reynolds' tweet.

"Congratulations, Ryan! Dude completely STOLE the show, and I would really love to see more of him!" a different user wrote.

Reynolds' wife, Blake Lively, previously shared a bikini photo on her Instagram Stories Thursday to promote her husband's movie. In the snap, the "Shallows" star posed in a floral print bikini with her back to the camera, showing off her fit backside.

"Go see @freeguymovie this weekend or you'll be bummed," she captioned the post.

"Free Guy" was released Friday. The film will run exclusively in theaters for 45 days, and its earnings will be an indicator of the state of the movie theater business.
