  • Valencia FC's Ferran Torres could be sold for a much cheaper price to Manchester City, a report said
  • Man City is reportedly not willing to pay above $40 million for Torres
  • Liverpool claimed that Torres has the same potential as Sadio Mane and Cristiano Ronaldo

Despite having a staggering buyout clause in his contract, Valencia CF's Ferran Torres, who has been likened to Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mane, may be sold for a cheaper price after Manchester City reportedly refused to match his current value.

Following a reported agreement with Man City, the situation of top prospect Torres has taken a huge turn. According to a report from Marca, Manchester City is firm on its decision not to pay more than €35 million ($40 million) for Torres’ transfer.

Torres’ contract with Valencia FC is set to expire at the end of next season. This has led to big clubs pursuing the Spanish winger, with Man City becoming the frontrunners to land Torres ahead of the transfer window.

However, the report further noted that despite reaching an agreement, Torres’ move to City may happen later rather than sooner.

Valencia has put a staggering €100 million ($114.2 million) buyout clause on Torres’ contract back in 2018 as a noble move to prevent Barcelona and Real Madrid from possibly signing him with ease. However, reports said that Torres’ contract could also see him negotiating freely with whoever he wants in January. This also means Valencia could lose him for free if no deal will be closed before this month.

Due to the financial crisis, an agreement with Man City could be Valencia’s last opportunity to try and cash-in for the impressive youngster. Therefore, Valencia will now have to accept a lot less money for Torres’ exit should it really want to maximize the chance of landing prospects this summer.

Torres has been in fine form this season for Valencia. Aside from Man City, reigning Premier League champions Liverpool has also been linked to his name.

The Reds believe that the Torres would make for an ideal addition to their already stacked offensive team, with Mane and Mohamed Salah leading the attacking department.

Liverpool F.C.’s official website claims that the Torres is expected to make a move to Anfield before his contract expires. The club’s site also emphasized that Liverpool views Torres as a player who has the same potential as a Mane and Ronaldo during the early days of their career.

“If Liverpool were to get their hands on Torres, he would perhaps prove an ideal understudy to Sadio Mane in one of the wide forward positions,” Liverpool.com stated.

Aside from similarities with Mane, Liverpool also thinks Torres has a “running style and gait” fairly resembling that of a young “CR7.”
