  • Britney Spears and Sam Asghari first met in 2016
  • Rumors about their engagement began after the singer returned from her Hawaii trip
  • At her conservatorship hearing, Spears said she wanted to get married and have kids

Britney Spears' boyfriend Sam Asghari took a dig at a paparazzo who congratulated him for "being engaged" to the pop star.

The 27-year-old personal trainer played along with the paparazzo and sarcastically replied that he and Spears have been married for five years.

"People don't know but we've been married for about five years," Asghari told the reporter outside a Los Angeles car dealership Wednesday. "We secretly got married in Hawaii. That's one of the stories that I don’t know, but I see it on newspapers."

He didn't stop there. "Yeah, we have twins," Asghari added.

Rumors about their engagement began last month when Spears went to Hawaii for a gateway trip after her conservatorship hearing. She was spotted wearing a huge ring when she returned.

Asghari has been supportive of Spears for the last couple of years. Last month, a source told People, "Sam has been Britney's rock for years. He makes sure that she eats well and works out. She leans on him for everything. He works and has his own life too, but is around as much as he can."

During the conservatorship hearing last month, the 39-year-old singer said she would like to "get married and have a baby."

"I want to have the real deal. I want to be able to get married and have a baby. I was told right now under the conservatorship, I'm not able to get married or have a baby," she explained. "I have an [IUD] inside of myself right now so I don't get pregnant. I wanted to take the [IUD] out so I could start trying to have another baby but this so-called team won't let me go to the doctor to take it out because they don’t want me to have children."

Asghari and Spears met for the first time on the sets of the music video "Slumber Party."
