KEY POINTS

  • Samsung's new budget handset is cheaper and has better features than the new iPhone SE
  • It has four rear cameras, a 6000 mAh battery and sells for around $300
  • The device is not available in the US at the moment

Samsung has launched a new handset meant to take on any smartphone in the budget-friendly category, including Apple's new iPhone SE. The new Galaxy M31 is a very affordable device that comes packed with some of the best features a midrange handset could have.

Tom's Guide reported that this handset is perfect for those who are looking for a cheap device but are disappointed with the 2020 iPhone SE. Here's a quick rundown on its specs, and why it could be definitely better than Apple's offering:

Processor

The iPhone SE might have the A13 Bionic, but it only has 3GB of RAM. The Galaxy M31, on the other hand, might have an Exynos 9611 CPU in it, but this chip is backed by 6GB of RAM. The SoC isn't really that powerful as compared to Samsung's best, but its specs will be enough for most tasks midrange devices are meant to handle.

The Galaxy M31 offers 64GB of internal storage, which can be expanded via use of a micro SD card.

Cameras

Here's where the Galaxy M31 clearly overtakes the iPhone SE. While Apple's cheap device only has one rear camera, Samsung's offer has four: a 64MP main shooter, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor, a 5MP depth sensor and a 5MP macro lens. It also has a 32MP sensor in front for those selfies.

The rear camera is capable of capturing 4K videos, and also features a night mode for when taking photos in the dark.

Display

The Galaxy M31 has a 6.4-inch display, which is significantly bigger than that of the new iPhone SE. It's an AMOLED display, however, which means its better than the LCD panel on Apple's device.

Battery

Samsung's new budget device comes with a 6,000 mAh battery. This is significantly larger than the 1,821 mAh battery inside the 2020 iPhone SE (as per YouTuber Arun Maini).

Price

Lastly, Tom's Guide reported that the Galaxy M31 is cheaper than the iPhone SE. It was revealed in India in February, and is now available in the U.K. for £245 ( about $304). It's not available in the U.S., but those who want it might be able to import it via Amazon UK.
