Following a recall for 131,000 pounds Health Choice Frozen Chicken Bowl Meals, because they may contain rocks, Jowett Farms Corporation has recalled 42,587 pounds of raw pork trimmings that were processed into sausage because they were not re-inspected for import into the U.S.

The recalled meat was sold at Jewel-Osco in Illinois and Wisconsin and imported into the U.S. on April 2.

The recall affects 20-ounce plastic-wrapped tray packages containing sausage links labeled as Jewel-Osco Sheboygan Brand Bratwurst – Made in Illinois with a sell-by date of 4/17/20. Also included in the recall were 20-ounce plastic-wrapped tray packages containing sausage links labeled as Jewel-Osco Mild Italian Sausage with a sell-by date of 4/17/20, and 20-ounce plastic-wrapped tray packages containing sausage links labeled as Jewel-Osco Hot Italian Sausage with a sell-by date of 4/17/20.

The affected sausage also bears the establishment number of EST. 7779 inside the USDA mark of inspection. Labels of the recalled sausage can be viewed here.

Consumers are urged to check their freezers for the recalled sausage products. They should not be consumed. They should be thrown away.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) discovered the inspection issue during routine surveillance activities. There have been no reports of adverse reactions from the recalled pork sausage. Individuals concerned about a reaction from the affected meat should contact their healthcare provider.
