“Scandal” Season 7 will have a total of 18 episodes that will be released starting this fall.

According to TV Line, the number of episodes for Season 7 is two more than last year’s 16 episodes. Originally, ABC ordered 22 episodes for “Scandal” Season 6, but the four installments were scaled back to accommodate Kerry Washington’s pregnancy. With the upcoming 18 episodes, “Scandal” is expected to end with a total of 124 installments.

Last month, rumors swirled that “Scandal” will be ending after only seven seasons due to executive producer Shonda Rhimes’ request. In 2013, Rhimes told NPR that she has always known how and when the series should end. “It is very political. The political landscape on the outside, in the real world, will change – possibly before ‘Scandal’ is over. But I feel like there is a finite amount of ‘Scandal’ to be told. So I know what the end of ‘Scandal’ will be, and I feel really good about that. And I can see where the end point is. And I don’t think I’m going to change that… I know how long it will be. But we’ll see,” she said.

Also in May, Rhimes shared some information about Season 7 and said that everything will be tackled on the show in its final episodes. “Next year, we are going to all out. Leaving nothing on the table. Creating this world in celebration. We are going to handle the very end the way we like to handle the important things in our ‘Scandal’ family: all together, white hats on, gladiators running full speed over a cliff,” she told The Hollywood Reporter.

“Scandal” Season 6 ended with the Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young) being declared as the president of the United States. She will also be working very closely with Cyrus Beene (Jeff Perry). Olivia Pope (Washington) and Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn) once again went their separate ways after the latter decided to flee Washington D.C. Olivia will still be involved in Mellie’s campaign, and she is expected to face huge problems in her personal and professional life.

“Scandal” Season 7 will premiere on ABC in September.
