In a recent interview on “The Social,” the former One Direction singer revealed his first impression of Justin Bieber’s former lady love as fans continue to speculate whether or not they are an item already.

One of the hosts asked the “What Makes You Beautiful” singer about his first thoughts of the Disney alum. Niall revealed he first saw Selena in the popular television show “Barney & Friends,” where the singer-actress played as Gianna. He, then, described Selena as “cute” and an “absolute sweetheart.”

“People are fickle. Aren’t they?” Niall Horan said, per Us Weekly. “They don’t know whether they want us to date or go on a song together,” he added. What surprised many fans is when the “Story of My Life” singer referred Selena Gomez as a “good friend” and later confirmed that they are not working on a track together.

Selena and Niall dating rumors spread like wildfire after the “I Can’t Get Enough” singer’s best friend shared a snap of them at a group dinner. In the said photograph, the Irish singer-songwriter’s hand was spotted around Justin Bieber’s ex-flame.

There were also reports claiming that Selena Gomez was sighted going inside Niall Horan’s pod in Los Angeles. The “Spring Breakers” actress, allegedly, arrived at the “Best Song Ever” hitmaker’s home with a bag of grocery items. However, fans were quick to clarify that their other mutual friends were also in Niall’s abode at the time.

Despite this, the Australian edition of OK! Magazine contended that Selena and Niall are secretly together now. “She’s open to start putting herself out there again,” an unnamed source told the entertainment news outlet. “That’s if Niall hasn’t already snapped her up!” it added.

In 2015, Selena Gomez said that she and Niall Horan are not dating. Though she loves the One Direction singer, she categorically denied, during Billboard’s 10^th Annual Women in Music event, that there is something romantic happening between them.

Dating rumors between the two singers first sparked when they left Jenna Dewan Tatum’s 35^th birthday three years ago. A source told Entertainment Tonight that Selena Gomez and Niall Horan were kissing at the event. "They tried their best to keep to themselves in their private booth behind the DJ table in the main room but that was not happening," the informant said at the time. "Selena seemed super into it," the source added.
