KEY POINTS

  • The rematch is on between Denice Zamboanga and Seo Hee Ham as the latter cleared her requirements
  • Fear of cancellation hounded the fight after it became known that Ham missed weight and failed the hydration test
  • Ham and Zamboanga's grudge match happens at ONE X on Saturday

It looks like the fight between South Korea’s Seo Hee Ham and the Philippines’ Denice Zamboanga is back on the menu.

A source close to the matter reported to International Business Times sports editor and combat sports analyst Nissi Icasiano confirming that Ham has indeed made weight and also passed the hydration test.

There was growing doubt about the fight ever taking place after both fighters failed to make an appearance during the ceremonial weigh-ins for ONE X.

Icasiano was later able to confirm that Ham failed both categories prior to the weigh-ins, which was seen as the reason for their absence to the pre-fight event.

This rematch between Ham and Zamboanga carries a ton of weight into it as the first fight had the South Korean striker winning the bout via split decision, to which controversy inevitably stirred across the internet mixed martial arts (MMA) community.

Zamboanga’s defeat to Ham would cause her to be eliminated from the ONE Women’s Atomweight Grand Prix, which was eventually won by Thailand’s Stamp Fairtex.

Stamp will challenge reigning atomweight titlist Angela Lee in the headliner of the massive three-fight card on Saturday, March 26.

Retribution is on the line for Zamboanga when she steps in the cage against Ham, fully expecting that the woman--who was lovingly called “Hamderlei Silva” in honor of MMA icon Wanderlei Silva--will be more willing to trade strikes with her.

Ham and Zamboanga were the only fighters missing from the weigh-ins, and now that the former has been cleared to compete, fans across the world will get to witness the grudge match.

ONE X will kick off at 1 PM SGT (1 AM ET) with Ham and Zamboanga’s rematch is slated for the 5 PM SGT (5 AM ET) card, while Stamp’s bid for history as the first three-sport champion within the promotion headlines the 8 PM SGT (8 AM ET) card entitled “Grand Finale.”
