Shailene Woodley is opening up about her romance and engagement to Aaron Rodgers for the first time following his surprise announcement earlier this month.

Woodley and Rodgers never confirmed their romance before the NFL superstar casually revealed he was engaged while accepting his third MVP trophy at the 10th Annual NFL Honors. Though he didn't name his fiancée at the time, several outlets reported that he popped the question to Woodley. Now, the actress has finally confirmed it during her appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon."

Woodley told host Jimmy Fallon that she and the Green Bay Packers quarterback have been engaged "for a while."

"For us, it's not new news, you know?" she said in the interview that aired Monday. "So it's kind of funny. Everybody right now is freaking out over it and we're like, 'Yeah, we've been engaged for a while.'"

When it comes to their under-the-radar romance, Woodley admitted that she never pictured herself dating an athlete.

"He's, first off, just a wonderful, incredible human being," she said of the NFL star. "But I never thought I'd be engaged with somebody who threw balls for a living. Like, I never thought as a little girl, I was like, 'Yeah, when I grow up, I'm gonna marry someone who throws balls! Yeah!' But he's really just so good at it."

The "Divergent" actress also shared that Rodgers got the approval of her dog during their first meeting

"When I first met him, I think my dog like pulled me aside and was like, 'If you don't date this dude, I will disown you as my mother, because the three feet that I run with you when you throw a ball is nothing compared to the marathon I'm able to run with him,'" Woodley shared.

Woodley confessed that prior to dating Rodgers, she had never seen a football game in person or watched it on TV. And since they met during the pandemic, when all stadiums were closed due to COVID-19 restrictions, she has yet to go to any of his games.

The actress revealed that sports, especially American ones, were not part of her life growing up. Before meeting her now-fiancé, she was aware that Rodgers was "a football guy," but she had no idea "what kind of a football guy he was" and is still "constantly learning" things about him.

Even after dating him, Woodley admitted that she's still not the biggest football fan.

"I don't get it. He's good. He's great. But, like, I don't understand," she told Fallon. "'Cause I don't know him as a football guy. I know him as, like, the nerd who wants to host Jeopardy!. That's the dude I know."

Following Rodgers' announcement earlier this month, one source close to the NFL player told People that many were surprised to hear that he had gotten engaged to the actress. According to the insider, they thought Woodley was just a "rebound" because he had been telling everyone that what they share was a "casual thing."

Rodgers previously dated former race car driver Danica Patrick for two years before they split in July 2020.
