Sharp [6753] is to cut 5,000 employees, 10 percent of its workforce, sources indicated Thursday.

The consumer electronics giant has suffered from poor performance in its main TV and LCD screen business, forecasting a net annual loss of 250 billion yen ($3.2 billion).
