Candy company Mars announced Tuesday that it would release a high-protein version of its Snickers candy bar.

The new Snickers Hi Protein bars will have 20 grams of protein and are made with peanuts, caramel and a chocolatey coating. Mars noted the move comes as it wants to bring a tastier protein bar option to consumers. It will be available starting January 2023

"Mars is consumer obsessed, and after talking with many consumers through the product development process, it was clear that the performance nutrition category was missing one key ingredient - delicious tasting products," Michelle Deignan, a senior brand director at Mars Wrigley, said in a press release.

"With the demand for delicious tasting protein bars increasing, SNICKERS Hi Protein bars are guaranteed to be a hit whether you work out avidly, casually or are looking for a delicious snack with more protein," Deignan said.

According to the Mayo Clinic, it is recommended the average person eat around 50–175 grams of protein daily. A protein bar with 20 grams of protein can help a person get much closer to their daily requirements.

The Snickers Hi Protein bar also only has 4 grams of sugar compared to many protein bars that usually have 13 grams of sugar on average.

Mars also released a Snickers protein powder along with the protein bars.
