Sega has announced that "Sonic Origins," featuring remastered classic “Sonic the Hedgehog” titles, is coming to major consoles this summer.

The collection features four retro games initially released on the Sega Genesis, including “Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2”, “Sonic 3 & Knuckles”, and “Sonic CD”. It will feature improved graphics, animated shorts, as well as special challenges that players can take part in to earn medals.

“Relive the classic adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD in the newly remastered Sonic Origins,” the game’s official website reads. If you pre-order the game, you can receive the Start Dash DLC pack featuring in-game currency 100 Bonus Coins with the new Mirror Mode unlocked.

"Sonic Origins" is set to launch on June 23rd for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Series X at $39.99. Players can buy a "Digital Deluxe" edition, which includes more modes, music tracks, and more for $44.99.

Also in the pipeline for Sega's iconic blue mascot is "Sonic Frontiers," a platform game set to release sometime this year on major consoles. It will be the first game in the franchise to incorporate open-world gameplay. The game was originally planned to be released in 2021 for Sonic's 30th anniversary but was delayed due to quality control.
