Maya and Jimmy will be looking for a new school for JJ in Season 2 of “Speechless.”

According to TV Guide, Season 2 of the ABC series starts with Maya (Minnie Driver) and Jimmy (John ross Bowie) searching for the best school for their eldest child once again. But the two soon realize that JJ’s (Micah Flower) current school is actually the best school for him. So for the first time since JJ started schooling, the DiMeos are not moving, and JJ’s younger siblings, Ray (Mason Cook) and Dylan (Kyla Kennedy), get to stay in the same school.

The sophomore run of the Scott Silver-created series will also explore the DiMeos having to put down roots for the first time and becoming part of their community.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times last April, Driver said that viewers might also learn more about Maya outside of her relationship with JJ next season. “Going forward there will have to be,” Driver said when asked if there are going to be storylines about who her character is outside of her relationship with her eldest son.

“We haven’t really explored who Maya’s family is,” Driver continued. “We’ve known some of Jimmy’s family. I think there’s a lot to be mined out of that [like] what she was on the path to do before she found herself pregnant and then gave birth to child who has a severe disability. Do we return to some of that? Do we try to find that as JJ becoming more independent? Does Maya get her previous life? I don’t know. [But] I’m imagining, yes [because] these are all conversations we had and continue to have.”

Meanwhile, Bowie would like to know more about Maya and Jimmy’s backstory next season. “I’ll go on record right now. I’d love to do a flashback episode where they dye my hair black again and we figure out like what the origin story of all these people are,” Bowie told AfterBuzz TV last May. “I’m in it for that. I’m here for that. I’m all about a flashback episode. And we have a ton of ‘Friends’ writers on the show, and ‘Friends’ did great, great flashback episodes.”

“Speechless” Season 2 premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 8:30 p.m. EDT on ABC.
