ABC won’t air a brand new episode of “Speechless” for two weeks, but series star Minnie Driver recently gave fans an idea of what will happen on the series when it returns in the final week of April.

During the 20th Century Fox Television’s panel at Deadline’s second annual Contenders Emmys event on Sunday, Driver revealed that her character Maya aids her disabled son JJ (Micah Fowler) run away from home in an upcoming episode of the series.

“I’m pissed off that he wants to run away — he wants to establish his independence — and I’m furious that he should be allowed to do everything an able bodied person can do,” Driver said of the “brilliantly meta and beautiful” storyline. “And if that means he wants to run away from me, then I need to help him.”

Driver didn’t mention the episode number where the said story will take place. But according to the Futon Critic, Season 1, episode 20 is titled “R-U-N-- RUNAWAY,” and that seems to be a very fitting title for the said plot.

Although “Speechless” was picked up for a full season just after airing its second episode, the series has yet to be renewed for Season 2. When panel moderator Michael Ausiello asked what Driver has heard so far about the potential renewal of the show, the British actress merely replied, “Crickets.”

While ABC has yet to pick up “Speechless” for Season 2, it’s no secret that Driver would like to play Maya for another season.

“I like the fact that she was presented to me as, ‘Nobody wants to do this because they’re all scared of how unlikable she is,’” Driver told The Hollywood Reporter. “There was a lot of difficulty around the idea of this character. [But] I was also very interested in the challenges of the perception of somebody who has to fight very hard. Why is that unlikable? Why is her fighting so hard considered difficult?”

“It’s been really interesting, I love her,” Driver added of portraying Maya. “She’s pretty unfiltered. She does say inappropriate things, but everybody says inappropriate things, and everybody ignores some of their children sometimes and treats the others better, and then the roles reverse. We’re not perfect, and imperfection is interesting as an actor.”

“Speechless” Season 1, episode 20 airs on Wednesday, April 26 at 8:30 p.m. EDT on ABC.
