Golden State Warriors fans called for Stephen Curry's return after watching their side lose once again on Wednesday night to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Despite Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson scoring 27 points each, the rest of the Warriors could not prevent the home side from suffering a huge 123-95 defeat to the Thunder at the Oracle Arena.

It marks their sixth defeat in their last eight games, including four straight losses for the first time under head coach Steve Kerr, as they have now dropped to fifth in the Western Conference with a 12-7 record. They notably started the season with a 10-1 record.

Kerr acknowledged they didn't play well and says work needs to be done in a number of areas. However, he believes better days are ahead for the team.

"You know, we're obviously not playing well. We're in a tough stretch, I don't really care to look back at last year, we had a different team," he told reporters after the game. "So I don't really make that comparison, I just think we need to look what's in front of us right now which is we need to get better at every dynamic."

"We didn't rebound well tonight, we got crushed on the boards, we didn't take care of the ball, 17 turnovers. We got to clean up all that stuff and keep fighting. We'll find our way out, we got better days ahead," he added.

It's no coincidence that Golden State's poor form coincides with the absence of Curry. The point guard injured his groin against the Milwaukee Bucks earlier this month and has now missed seven straight games.

Given the constant debate surrounding Durant and Curry, it is the latter whose importance has become further amplified with these results, as Warriors fans took to social media and urged the 30-year-old to return.

Curry is expected to be reevaluated on Saturday with the Warriors hosting the Sacramento Kings later that night. However, the expectation is that he will return on Monday when they take on the Orlando Magic.

Having suffered from ankle and knee injuries in the past, a groin injury is something new for the three-time champion which is why both he and the Warriors medical team are approaching his return to injury with caution.

Curry did, however, return to the court recently where he practiced shots again.

"Progress is moving in the right direction," Curry said over the weekend. "[I] haven't had any setbacks or anything like that. But it's more so about getting full range of motion, doing so where it's pain-free and things like that."

"I'm learning about this one. I can tell you everything you want to know about ankles. But this is obviously a new one for me, so trying to make sure I stay cautious, but knowing that we're moving in the right direction. So I don't know how long it'll be, but that's all I can pretty much ask for right now," he said.
