KEY POINTS

  • Steve Nash was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018
  • After a lengthy and lucrative playing career, he will coach the Brooklyn Nets next season
  • Nash signed the biggest deal of his career playing for L.A. Lakers

Steve Nash’s net worth is around $95 million, thanks to his NBA career that spanned almost two decades.

Nash was the 15th pick in the first round of the 1996 NBA draft. His draft class also featured future stars Kobe Bryant, Stephon Marbury, Ray Allen and Allen Iverson, which probably explains why he was chosen late, a COED report revealed.

He had two productive years in Phoenix Suns before getting traded to the Dallas Mavericks in 1998 to partner with Dirk Nowitzi. Dallas made the playoffs with Nash leading the point four times in six years. The Canadian would eventually make his way back to Phoenix in 2004 and achieve greater success than his first time around.

Nash spearheaded coach Mike D’Antoni’s 5-seconds-or-less offensive scheme. The Suns made the playoffs five times in eight years with Nash leading the attack. Due to the success of the offensive system, it made Amare Stoudemire and Shawn Marion All-Stars while their point guard earned two MVPs in the process. When his stint with Phoenix ended in 2012, the eight-time NBA all star joined the Los Angeles Lakers and tried to win a title with Bryant and Dwight Howard before calling it a career.

Advanced age and injuries marred Nash’s performance for the Lakers, even though they made the postseason once when he was there. He decided to hang it up in 2015. Due to his achievements and impact on the game, the 6 foot 3 point guard was inducted in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018.

Nash received the biggest payday of his career as a member of the Suns, with $87 million earnings in 10 seasons. However, he signed his biggest contract with the Lakers, which paid him $28 million in three years, per Spotrac. In his heyday, Nash scored collaborations with brands such as Dove Men and Sprint.

The former Maverick was named the new coach of the Brooklyn Nets for the 2020-2021 season. The move surprised many as Nash does not have extensive experience as a head coach, but he has been involved in Golden State Warriors as a consultant. His ties with Warriors when Kevin Durant played there may have been a factor in the Nets’ decision to hire him. Brooklyn will parade its revamped roster next season with Kyrie Irving and Durant leading the charge.

It remains to be seen if he can achieve the same success he had when he was still playing now that he will become Brooklyn’s coach. But there’s finally a reason for Nets fans to be happy because the team is stacked from coaches to players, at least on paper.
