  • Arsenal interested in French striker who scored more goals than Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi
  • French striker likely to stay at his club
  • Arsenal's captain  Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been linked to move to Barcelona

Arsenal is reportedly interested in signing a French striker from Leicester Celtic who has apparently scored more goals than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Arsenal F.C. has been linked to be a number of moves as the club’s captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang approaches contract expiration. And one of the names being mentioned is Odsonne Edouard from France.

Edouard was loaned to Celtic in 2017. The 22-year-old forward did not waste time and quickly emerged as an exceptional striker for Leicester. This has led to club manager Brendan Rodgers to ink Edouard permanently.

According to Twelfth Man Times, the Frenchman is a natural-born goal scorer who already bagged 60 goals that go along with 31 assists in 126 appearances for the Bhoys. In fact, Edouard reportedly has more goal contributions than La Liga superstar Messi and Serie A goal scorer Ronaldo.

Premier League clubs have now turned their heads to Edouard and though a big move to Emirates has a chance to come to fruition, Leicester is still the club who is said to be the frontrunners in signing the youngster.

It will be remembered that back in 2018, Rodgers widely lauded the Frenchman, saying, “I find myself applauding due to the sheer quality that he possesses, which is incredible. He also has a great footballing brain and technique for such a young player. He’s very strong and he also gets goals. He’s a fantastic talent.”

Despite being phenomenal scorer, former Arsenal player turned pundit for Sky Sports Charlie Nicholas is certainly not convinced that Edouard could possibly be a replacement for Aubameyang. According to Nicholas, Edouard is not as versatile as the Arsenal captain and plays more like his fellow Gunner Alexandre Lacazette, Football.london reported.

"There's been a lot of talk of Aubameyang being sold, but Edouard would not be the answer. He plays differently, more like Lacazette. Aubameyang is about pace and movement. Although he likes to play the No. 9 role, he does not play it as what Edouard could. Similarly, Edouard could not play in the position that Aubameyang does, out wide on the left,” Nicholas said.

Aubameyang’s contract situation also sparks a major transfer battle this summer and one of the clubs reportedly interested is LaLiga giants Barcelona.

The 30-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Premier League club, with his contract due to expire next year. Reports also claim that Barca's interest in Aubameyang appears to be ongoing and that the LaLiga giants have seen Aubameyang as an affordable option since January of this year.
