  • Ajax say Suarez's signing looks difficult
  • Suarez is not a part of Koeman's new plan at Barcelona
  • He has scored 198 goals for the Catalans in six seasons

Ajax Sporting Director Marc Overmars has admitted Luis Suarez’s return to the Dutch club looks "difficult" but they are "trying".

FC Barcelona are in a mess right now with the arrival of new head coach Ronald Koeman, who took over the charge after the club sacked Quique Setien following their humiliating Champions League exit. Soon after Barcelona’s 8-2 loss to Bayern Munich in the quarter-final, Barcelona sacked Setien and sporting director Eric Abidal.

It is believed Koeman informed Suarez on Monday that he is not a part of the new project that is building at Barcelona. Suarez, who has just one year left in his current contract with Barcelona, soon began to be linked with a move back to his former club Ajax, where he first rose to fame in club soccer.

It was previously reported that Ajax were monitoring Suarez’s transfer situation at Barcelona. A move back to Amsterdam could give Suarez the chance to end his career at the club that made him the superstar he is today. The Uruguayan played for four seasons at Ajax, where he netted 111 goals and provided 66 assists in just 159 competitive games

According to a report in Spanish publication SPORT, Ajax chief Overmars opened up about Suarez’s transfer as he admitted the Dutch club has contacted its former striker.

“The possibility that Luis Suárez comes is quite small. We are trying, but it is difficult. We have had contacts, but as we have with many players. It is normal to have contact with former footballers,” Overmars said in an interview when asked about Suarez, according to SPORT.

It has also been reported that Barcelona could use Suarez in a two-player swap deal along with Sergio Busquets to sign one of their top targets this summer – Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan. Barcelona are considering the 22-year-old forward, who has been valued at $106 million by the Serie A side, as a long-term replacement for Suarez.

It is also understood that an irked Messi has decided to leave the Nou Camp side after his recent conversation with new head coach Koeman, who reportedly has told the Barcelona skipper his "privileges are over" and that he has to "do everything for the team".
