As seen in a sneak peek from tonight’s episode of “Suits,” Mike (Patrick J. Adams) pays Harvey (Gabriel Macht) a visit to personally tell him that he isn’t taking his offer to work as a consultant for Pearson Specter Litt. While some fans might find Mike’s decision a little disappointing — most especially for those who are looking forward to seeing the two reunite — series creator Aaron Korsh said that the former faux lawyer’s choice definitely makes sense.

“The challenge [for us] is we did not want to bring [Mike] back right away,” Korsh said during an interview with TV Guide. “For me, it was from a character perspective. This kid said in his speech to the jury that he was given a gift and he would never throw it away, and he meant that. So for me, I felt like if Mike got out of prison, that’s what he wants to do.”

“I think Mike is going to do his best to try to stay away from the firm,” Korsh added. “We'll see where his journey ultimately leads, but for the time being he’s not back at the firm, and just like Jessica (Gina Torres), that has an effect on everyone.”

In an interview with E! News, Adams also gave his two cents about Mike’s decision to turn down Harvey’s job offer. “I think he’s really soul-searching, you know?” Adams said of his character. “He’s taking a difficult road. Obviously, the easiest thing for him to do would be to stand by his friend Harvey and for them to sort of do what they’ve always done, which is go at it as this sort of fearsome twosome. … [But after his stay in prison, Mike is now] adamant that he do something different with his life.”

Tonight’s episode (Season 6, episode 11), titled “She’s Gone,” airs at 10 p.m. EST on USA Network.
