The budding romance between Kara (Melissa Benoist) and Mon-El (Chris Wood) might end abruptly once she finds out that he hasn’t been completely honest with her since his arrival on Earth.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, “Supergirl” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg implied that Kara might not react very well when he discovers that Mon-El is keeping a big secret from her. “Secrets are never healthy in a relationship and obviously Mon-El is holding onto something,” Kreisberg said. “We got a little taste that his life on Daxam might not be as over as we think from the glimpse of the space farers, who are on the hunt for him. So it will definitely play a big part in their relationship moving forward.”

In Season 2, episode 4 of “Supergirl,” Mon-El told Kara, Alex (Chyler Leigh), J’onn (David Harewood) and Winn (Jeremy Jordan) that he worked as a palace guard for the royal family of Daxam before he found himself on Earth. The day Krypton was destroyed, its debris showered onto its sister planet Daxam, causing its eventual destruction. Mon-El said that he was trying to bring the Prince of Daxam to safety when the devastation started. When they spotted a functional Kryptonian pod, Mon-El decided to send the prince away, but the prince locked him in the pod instead and ordered him to save himself.

A fan theory proposes that Mon-El is actually the Prince of Daxam, and that probably explains why there are aliens who are looking for him. When asked about what he thinks of the theory, Kreisberg simply said, “No comment.”

“Supergirl” is currently on its midseason hiatus. Its next episode (Season 2, episode 9), titled “Supergirl Lives,” airs on Monday, Jan. 23, 2017 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW. Check out a sneak peek from the Kevin Smith-directed episode below:
