Taiwanese Woman Reprimanded In Famous Philippine Island For Wearing Revealing Bikini

A Taiwanese woman was recently fined in Boracay after wearing a "string bikini" on the shores of the famous Philippine island. She was ordered to pay PHP 2,500 ($49) after residents of the tourist destination complained about her "lewd" outfit.

The foreigner, who was in her early 20s, had to be brought to the Boracay police station to answer to local authorities. Maj. Jess Baylon, the police chief of the Malay town, told the Inquirer that "several residents and tourists took photos of her... because of what she was wearing."

The tourist wore a white string bikini Wednesday, while she wore a different pair the next day, prompting onlookers to call the authorities because of the revealing outfit.

The Philippines is a conservative nation when it comes to these types of clothing, mainly because most of the people are Catholics. When the Taiwanese woman's skimpy raiment trended on several social media platforms, it caught the attention of The Boracay Inter-Agency Rehabilitation Management Group.

Maj. Baylon said that they found the tourist in a hotel in Station 1 with her boyfriend Thursday. Both foreigners were brought to the police station along with a representative to answer for their behavior.

Several onlookers said that the woman "literally wore a string" to cover her genitals. The woman said that she found nothing wrong with her bikini, saying that it is a "form of expression and of feeling comfortable with her body."

The woman added that she usually wears a revealing outfit in Taiwan. Nonetheless, local authorities still reprimanded the woman and she was told to pay the fine for taking and displaying "lewd" photographs.

Local authorities said that the couple needs to pay the fine before leaving on Oct. 11. Last year a tourist was reprimanded for wearing a skimpy outfit while riding a motorcycle in Baclayon, Bohol.

Police officers had to tell the foreigner to cover up her butt. The tourist was eventually allowed to go after covering the bikini with a tube skirt.
