NBC has dropped the first promo for the upcoming Season 2 of “Taken.”

In the 30-second clip, Christina Hart (Jennifer Beals) describes Bryan Mills (Clive Standen) to one of her latest recruits who will help her bring Bryan back to the United States.

“This man, he’s wired to protect others. It’s how he’s built,” Hart tells Kilroy (Adam Goldberg) of Bryan.

When Kilroy asks why she cares about Bryan so much, Christina says, “Let’s just say he’s got a particular set of skills.”

After defying Christina’s orders and exacting revenge on the man who killed his sister at the end of Season 1, Bryan is put to a secret Mexican prison. According to the synopsis for Season 2, episode 1, Bryan plans a series of dangerous deals behind bars to put him on track for escape to the United States. But his plans change when he and a young migrant girl (Adriana Santos) are taken by human traffickers.

In the promo, Bryan is seen talking to the girl’s father. “They took your little girl. I’m not gonna stop until I get her back,” Bryan promises.

At the end of the promo, Bryan seems to have saved the girl. But will he get to escape to the United States at the end of the season-opener?

While the promo teases a promising season premiere, fans might find the new season less action-packed as six of the original series regulars are not returning for show’s sophomore run.

NBC Chairman Robert Greenblatt said that the decision to pink-slip six of the show’s original series regulars was rooted from a belief that the series “needed” a creative reboot. “There’s a better show in there,” the network boss said (via TVLine) last August. “We love Clive and Jennifer, but I think we got a little disparate with [the supporting characters] and couldn’t really define them enough. So we just took a look at what the essence of the show was and tried to focus in on that. I think it’s going to be a really strong second season.”

According to Deadline, “Taken” is adopting more procedural elements in the vein of NBC’s “The Blacklist” and “Blindspot” for the new season.

“Taken” Season 2, episode 1, titled “S.E.R.E.,” airs on Friday, Jan. 12, 2018 at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.
