A taxi driver saved an elderly woman from being duped of $25,000 by scammers posing to be from the revenue services. The taxi driver had picked up the woman from Roseville, California.

The 92-year-old woman took a cab from Roseville and intended to go to the bank. It was reported that Rajbir Singh, the taxi driver, in a conversation with the lady found out that the woman wanted to go to the bank to withdraw $25k to settle a debt with the Internal Revenue Service.

Singh told media outlets Thursday that he pleaded the woman to reconsider her decision as he thought it could be a scam. He also took the woman to a police station to clarify the case.

Singh, in a statement to the media, said, “I am an honest guy, and these are old people. They need help. It just made sense.” As Singh engaged in the conversation with the woman, he found out that someone pretending to be an IRS agent had called the woman and asked her for $25,000.

Singh added that he had later tried to call the number that had asked for the money and asked them if they knew the woman, to which they didn't reply and disconnected the call. After multiple attempts, the number had blocked Singh, he told the media.

The Roseville police department, in a Facebook post, said Singh attempted multiple times to convince the lady and came to the police station while the lady sat in the cab and called an officer to come and explain to the lady about the scam.

In the post, the police department said they were grateful for Singh’s service as he could very easily have dropped the woman to the bank and could have moved on his way but instead, he chose to take time out of his day to save this lady from a scam. The police department added that the authorities gifted Singh with a $50 gift card.
