Taylor Swift has released a new version of her fan-favorite song "All Too Well" with new lyrics, which seemed to reveal the real reason she and her ex-boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal broke up.

In the 10-minute version of the track, which dropped Friday on her rerecorded "Red" album, the 31-year-old singer's new lyrics indicated that her nine-year age gap with the "Nightcrawler" actor, 40, played a major role in their split 11 years ago, Page Six reported.

"You said if we had been closer in age maybe it would have been fine / And that made me want to die," Swift sings in her rerecorded version of "All Too Well."

Fans have long speculated that "All Too Well" is about Gyllenhaal, though Swift has never officially confirmed that it is.

Swift and Gyllenhaal dated for three months in 2010 before going their separate ways just before her 21st birthday, which was also mentioned in the track.

"You, who charmed my dad with self-effacing jokes / Sipping coffee like you were on a late-night show / But then he watched me watch the front door all night, willing you to come / And he said, 'It's supposed to be fun turning 21,'" she sings.

Swift and Gyllenhaal first sparked romance rumors in October 2010 when they attended "Saturday Night Live" together to support host Emma Stone.

Shortly after their sighting, Swift appeared on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," where she dodged questions about her and Gyllenhaal. "I'm always optimistic about love," she said.

A month later, they were spotted strolling through New York City while visiting his sister, Maggie Gyllenhaal, for Thanksgiving. In December 2020, the "Crazy Heart" actress said it was "great" having Swift over dinner.

However, their whirlwind romance was short-lived, and they called it quits ahead of January 2011, Us Weekly reported. "Jake just told her it wasn't working out. Taylor is really upset and hurt. She feels really burned by him," an unnamed source told the outlet at the time.

Two years after their split, Swift dropped her album "Red," which included her smash hits "All Too Well" and "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together."

Swifties immediately looked for clues within the lyrics of her songs and speculated that there were hints about her short-lived romance with Gyllenhaal. The original version of "All Too Well," released in 2012, included lyrics about a road trip to upstate New York and losing a scarf.

"Left my scarf there at your sister's house / And you've still got it in your drawer even now," read the lyrics, which fans linked to the accessory Swift wore when she joined Gyllenhaal and her sister for Thanksgiving in 2010.

"Now you mail back my things and I walk home alone, But you keep my old scarf from that very first week / 'Cause it reminds you of innocence and it smells like me," Swift also sings.

Through the years, Gyllenhaal has been photographed wearing a scarf similar to that of Swift.

When the actor's sister appeared on "Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen" in 2017, she was asked about the much-talked-about scarf. "I never understood why everybody asked me about this scarf. I am in the dark about the scarf. It’s totally possible, I don’t know," Maggie said.

Gyllenhaal is currently dating 25-year-old model Jeanne Cadieu, while Swift has been in a long-term relationship with 30-year-old actor Joe Alwyn since 2016.
