KEY POINTS

  • Taylor Swift claims the top spot on Billboard 200 for fifth consecutive week
  • It is the first album since Drake's "Scorpion" (2018) to top the chart for five week in a row
  • "Folklore" is one of the top-selling albums of 2020

Taylor Swift just keeps on making records. After conquering the Billboard charts for the first four weeks, “Folklore” has claimed the numero uno position on the Billboard 200 for the fifth consecutive week and achieved a massive feat in doing so.

Swift’s newest release has become the first album to remain at the top of the charts for five consecutive weeks since Drake’’s 2018 album “Scorpion,” Billboard reported. The media outlet cited Nielsen’s Music/MRC Data to reveal that the album earned 98,000 units in the U.S.

The “Cardigan” hitmaker will now be looking to make it six in a row and if she is able to achieve that feat, then it will be the first album to spend six weeks on number one since Drake’s “Views” in 2016. The blockbuster album from the rapper spent a total of 13 weeks at the top spot.

Meanwhile, “Folklore” is the second album in 2020 to spend five consecutive weeks on Billboard 200. Lil Baby’s album “My Turn” was also at the top for five weeks in a row.

Last month, Swift opened up about the album and noted how trusting her imagination and songwriting helped her during isolation amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“In isolation, my imagination has run wild and this album is the result, a collection of songs and stories that flowed like a stream of consciousness. Picking up a pen was my way of escaping into fantasy, history, and memory. I’ve told these stories to the best of my ability with all the love, wonder, and whimsy they deserve,” Swift wrote on Twitter.

Earlier this month, the “Bad Blood” hitmaker became the first artist in history to spend 40 weeks at the numero uno position on the Billboard Artist 100 chart. The “Cardigan” hitmaker left behind Drake (31 weeks), The Weeknd (20 weeks), Post Malone (14 weeks), and Ariana Grande (13 weeks) on the coveted list.
