Greg Henderson took the reins from stage 2 winner Ben Swift as Team Sky took its second consecutive win to dominate the early part of the 2011 Amgen Tour of California.

Henderson attempted to lead out Swift, but Swift couldn't hold on, so Henderson took the stage himself for an impressive Team Sky stage win.

Stage 3's relatively flat course from Auburn to Modesto allowed the sprint teams to control the early breakaway across the entire 200 km (124 mile) race from start to finish.

Crosswinds stretched out the peloton when the breakaway was caught with approximately 20 km to the finish.

While some contenders were gapped, General Classification and Bay Area favorite Levi Leipheimer was protected by his teammates on Team RadioShack and stayed towards the front.

Tomorrow's stage 4 from Livermore to San Jose, will feature the Bay Area prominently, as it will be the first test for GC contenders with its hilltop finish on Sierra road.
