A teen mother in the Philippines has been taken into custody for beating her toddler to death because she was mad at the child’s father.

The 18-year-old woman, whose identity was not revealed by local media, had initially given the child to her sister when the baby was just 2 months old. The sister returned the toddler on April 1 as she had lost her job and couldn’t look after the child, local news outlet Manila Bulletin reported.

On Tuesday, the teen beat the child to death with a wooden stick at their home in Manila. Initial investigation revealed that the teen was "annoyed" at the toddler for crying when her other baby was sleeping and was also "mad at her children’s father," Manila Times reported.

Meanwhile, reports said that the toddler experienced difficulty in breathing after being beaten repeatedly. The teen then took the toddler to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

An autopsy revealed that the toddler had multiple bruises on her body and that she died from blunt abdominal trauma. The toddler also had blood clots all over her body.

The mother was taken into custody Wednesday and charged with murder.

Meanwhile, police said the teen’s two other children are now with their grandmother. No information was available regarding the child’s father.

The incident comes months after a man in the Indian state of Jharkhand threw his toddler daughter on the ground and strangled her to death because the girl would not stop crying. The toddler’s mother, who witnessed the incident, immediately started screaming for help, following which the neighbors gathered and beat the man up. Police arrived at the scene and took the man into custody.

In another incident last year, a Mississippi man was jailed for hitting his two-month-old son in the head twice because the baby was crying continuously. Paramedics arrived at the home and rushed the baby to the hospital where doctors diagnosed severe bleeding in the infant's brain. The father was arrested and charged with child abuse.
