A dramatic video, showing young boys fighting off a massive snake as it tries to kill their pet dog, has gone viral. It remains unclear when and where the incident took place.

The video shows the huge snake wrapped around the lower body and hind legs of the dog. The animal is heard squealing as it tries to run to save itself. A boy, who looked the eldest, attempts to hit the snake's head with what looks like a metal pole.

The youngsters then come up with a plan in a bid to save their dog, who appeared dazed than distressed.

The boys turn the dog’s body from side to side in an attempt to help throw off the snake. Finally, they manage to unravel the snake, with two boys holding either side of the reptile. The dog then leaps out of snake's grip and runs off.

The Daily Mail reported the dog appeared unhurt following the incident, but the fate of the snake remains unknown.

After the dog's escape, the older boy is seen holding the snake up by its head showing off the victory following the rigorous fight.

There have been several incidents in which massive snakes and humans have come face to face to fight for survival.

In June, a man fought off a massive python that had wrapped itself around a 4-foot alligator. The snake almost managed to subdue the gator, but the man intervened to save the smaller predator. The man held the python until it dropped the gator and released it. The alligator quickly escaped the scene.

However, it's not always humans that have come to the rescue of other animals being attacked by a snake.

In July, a pet golden retriever saved an Arizona woman's life by jumping in front of her and confronting a rattlesnake that was about to bite her.

“It was a beautiful morning but as we were walking down the hill I literally almost stepped on a mf rattlesnake. But my hero of a puppy Todd saved me. He jumped right in front of my leg were I surely would have got bit. This is what a hero looks like. Please say a little prayer for my sweet hero,” the woman wrote in a Facebook post, following the incident, along with photos of her heroic pet.

"I didn't see the snake and I am so careful when it comes to these things," Godwin said. "That dang rattlesnake was so camouflaged I did not see that thing.
