KEY POINTS

  • Tesla has a feature called Dyno Mode that it purposely hid from users
  • It appears that some Tesla owners discovered this and shared how to access it
  • Here are the reasons why you should not use it

US electric vehicle maker Tesla is working on a lot of revolutionary features to ensure safety, comfort, and convenience to users. Over the years, Tesla released a lot of software updates and features to achieve this. It is also working on a Dyno mode, which some users are irresponsibly using.

What Is Tesla Dyno Mode

The Tesla Dyno Mode was first discovered in an EPA filing in Oct. 2019. The information on the filing reveals images of the vehicle on a dynamometer, which is meant for testing purposes. It also shows the data to establish the efficiency of the vehicle.

But, this Dyno Mode in Tesla is a secret or hidden feature intended for testing purposes only. The feature disables a wide range of safety and security features that Tesla equips its vehicles with. When users use Dyno Mode, it disables the automatic emergency braking, traction control, and stability control of the vehicle.

Several automakers are using a dynamometer to test the power output of their vehicles. There are different types of dynamometer, but all of them work to offer a way for the car to deploy power to the drive wheels without the need to move the vehicle. The dyno then records the car’s output.

What Could Possibly Happen If You Use Tesla Dyno Mode

Tesla has been subject to a lot of investigations over the years because of a lot of issues, including unintended acceleration. And, the primary reason why it is releasing safety features to its vehicles is to ensure that owners would be safe and comfortable on their vehicles. Driving without these safety features is like driving blind at night, and a lot of things could happen.

As reported by Electrek, the Dyno Mode does not practically boost performance. Tesla vehicle owners who want to get increased performance should use the Track Mode. It is designed for race tracks and closed circuits that improve the cooling and cornering power of the vehicle.

Several incidents of Tesla owners on Dyno Mode have been reported recently. One owner has a twin motor Tesla (non-performance model). It appears that he was ‘very stunned’ of how simple to spin out with Dyno Mode on.

But, according to Electrek, it hurt the vehicle’s automotive and is very dangerous if there are people and other vehicles on the street at the time the Tesla owner was doing it. Another incident where the owner uses Dyno Mode ended the joyride with the vehicle crashing into a chainlink fence.
