Tesla has paved the way for the proliferation of electric vehicles in the automotive market and built a name for itself as one of the premier luxury car companies. As one of the biggest names in the auto industry, eyes are often fixed on what’s to come from the popular U.S.-based company.

Here’s a look at three of the company’s high-profile upcoming projects.

Roadster 2020

Announced back in 2017, the Tesla Roadster 2020 is the first-ever follow-up to the company’s debut electrical car, the Roadster 2008. CEO Elon Musk boasts that the upcoming supercar will be able to go from 0 to 60 miles-per-hour in 1.9 seconds, and will be capable of a top speed of 250 miles-per-hour. More beguiling than these impressive figures within traditional benchmarks is the vehicles planned SpaceX integration. This option will place 10 rocket thrusters around the body of the car, coming together to improve acceleration, braking, and handling.

As the name implies, the Roadster 2020 will release sometime next year, and will reportedly cost at least $200,000.

Semi

The Tesla Semi is the company’s move to bring electric vehicles to long-haul trucking. First discussed in 2016, the Semi is planned to begin production in 2020 and will be capable of traveling 640 kilometers on a 30-minute charge. The truck will be capable of going from 0-60 MPH in 20 seconds while hauling 80,000 pounds. It is expected to cost $180,000.

Model Y

The most recently unveiled vehicle on the way from Tesla, the Model Y was announced in March 2019, almost six years after its name was first trademarked. Part of the company’s plan to enter the mass market, the Model Y is a compact SUV with seven seats and the capability of traveling 300 miles on a full charge.

“It has the functionality of an SUV but it rides like a sports car,” Musk said about the vehicle. “We expect it’ll be the safest SUV in the world by far.”

Models will begin shipping in late 2020, with the Standard Range model arriving in Spring 2021. Prices for its four different models will range from $39,000 to $60,000.
