Authorities have yet to reveal significant details about the shooting at a Texas A&M-Commerce University residence hall on Monday. Campus police revealed, though, that the child wounded in the shooting is in stable condition.

According to FOX News, Police Chief of the Texas A&M-Commerce University Police Department Bryan Vaughn said officers who responded to the scene after being alerted regarding the shooting found two women dead.

At around 10:30 a.m., a student called campus police regarding the incident. After the wounded child was brought to the hospital, university staff, faculty, and students were asked to take shelter.

Pride Rock residence hall, where the shooting took place, is still cordoned by police, but Vaughn did not reveal further details about the three victims. There was no immediate information available as well regarding the suspect’s identity.

NBC affiliate KXAS-TV reported that investigators have yet to unveil details about the suspect’s motive. It is unclear whether campus police are looking for potential gunmen who may be related to the shooting.

On the other hand, President of the Texas university Mark J. Rudin noted that investigations were still underway into the “criminal incident.” When asked during a media briefing regarding additional information about the shooting, Rudin made no comments.

Following the shooting, classes were suspended throughout the day shelter in place was implemented. However, the precautionary move was lifted less than two hours after the shooting.

According to CNN, Rudin noted that University Police patrol personnel has been intensified since the incident. Counseling for those who may have witnessed the shooting or were nearby during the incident may also avail of the school’s expanded counseling services.

So far, no further threats have been reported around the university. However, this isn’t the first time the Texas A&M-Commerce saw a shooting that resulted in multiple deaths.

In October, a shooting injured at least a dozen people and two people were killed at a Halloween party. While the shooting was off-campus, victims were students from the said university.

Furthermore, there are no details available yet about the gunman in the October 2019 shooting. A suspect was identified early in the investigations but was later released due to lack of evidence on his involvement.

The campus located around 60 miles of northeast Dallas is composed of an estimated 4,000 graduate students and 6,000 undergraduate students.
