KEY POINTS

  • Mason Mount has scored in his last three league games
  • Mount has netted a total of six goals so far this season
  • Chelsea will next take on Everton in the Premier League

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has heaped praise on Mason Mount, saying he has a great technique and the team relies on him.

Mount has netted a goal in each of his last three Premier League games. Overall, a total of nine goals have been yielded from Mount's previous five starts in the Premier League – he has scored six and assisted three.

The English midfielder did not have the best start to the 2021-22 season. After failing to score in his initial games, Mount had lost his place from Chelsea's starting XI for a few games. Mount also suffered an injury that saw him miss four games between September and October.

However, Mount has managed to revive his season in recent weeks and has received massive praise from his manager Tuchel.

"We rely on him because he plays in an offensive position. He needs to be decisive and assist and score because he has the technique, the ability and the movement to do so. It's about timing, acceleration and knowing where and when to arrive in the box," Tuchel told Chelsea's official website in an interview.

Ahead of the Premier League clash with Leeds United on Saturday, Chelsea were under pressure to extract a win as they had managed to secure three points only twice out of their last four league matches.

Leeds went 1-0 up after Raphinha scored from the spot before Mount netted a crucial equalizer for Chelsea just before the half-time break.

"It's about connections between Reece and him most of the time, depending on which side he plays. We cannot be surprised that sometimes in careers of young players they have difficult moments. That's why they are young players, and why their careers are at the beginning and not the end," added Tuchel.

While Mount is yet to score in the UEFA Champions League, the Three Lions player has a total of six goals to his name from 20 competitive matches in the 2021-22 season, apart from four assists.

"The thing is to take care of him, guide him through these moments, to push him and trust him with what we do. Players always want to play, now he is back in a good shape and in full confidence, and with a bit of luck he will be the guy he can be," Tuchel said further.
