  • Jonathan Woodgate doesn't see Harry Kane winning at Tottenham
  • The former Spurs defender urges Kane to join Real Madrid
  • The England striker admitted he has been in his best form this season

Former Tottenham and Read Madrid star Jonathan Woodgate gave Harry Kane a blunt advice on how he can be on the same footing as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Kane is arguably the best striker in the English Premier League today. However, Woodgate is doubtful that a consistent fine form at Tottenham would put the Englishman on the list of greatest players to ever grace the pitch.

In a recent interview with Stadium Astro, the 40-year-old weighed in on the Spurs talisman’s career and urged him to join Los Blancos once the opportunity arises.

According to Woodgate, Kane would be wasting his years at Tottenham but could still reach the pinnacle of his career with the reigning La Liga champions.

“If Real Madrid come in for you–especially Harry Kane, he has got to go,” the Premier League legend pointed out. “If he wants to win trophies and get onto that next pedestal of [Lionel] Messi, [Cristiano] Ronaldo and that type of player, he has to go.”

“I don’t see him winning the league at Spurs, not this season and not in the next few seasons, they have got too much building to do to get up there with Liverpool and Man City,” he continued. “For me, if he wants to win the European Cup, then he has got a chance of winning it at Real Madrid.”

Apart from bagging goals, Kane has also been on target in dishing out assists. This Premier League season alone, the 27-year-old already has 11 assists to his name, convincing Woodgate to hail him as the best player in the English top-flight thus far.

“I think his game has improved over the years,” Woodgate assessed. “Harry Kane is an unbelievable No. 9, but with the assists he has got this season, he can play 10. [With] his passing and general play with his back to goal, he’s an exceptional footballer. He reminds me at times of Teddy Sheringham when he comes into those areas as a 10. For me, (Kane) he is the best striker in the Premier League.”

To date, Kane has scored a total of 153 Premier League goals for the Spurs in 226 appearances . For the Middlesbrough native, the English striker can even exceed Newcastle legend Alan Shearer’s long-standing record of 260 Premier League goals.

“Kane is No. 1 in the Premier League,” he emphasized. “He just gets better and better. He has a chance to break Alan Shearer’s record.”

This past December, Kane himself admitted that he has been playing the best season of his career declaring, “I’d probably say it’s the best form I’ve been in in my life, the best start to the season for sure.”
