Arsenal’s latest addition, midfielder Thomas Partey, is the key piece that the Gunners need, according to technical director Edu.

“Thomas has all the right attributes to be a top player for Arsenal. He is a leader on and off the pitch and he is exactly the kind of player and person we want at the club,” Edu said, Goal reported.

Throughout Partey’s career, he’s served as a consistent presence on the field. In 2015, he joined Atletico Madrid’s first team where he’s played in 188 matches. As a defensive midfielder, he has scored 16 goals and tallied 12 assists.

“We already feel like we know Thomas very well based on the work we have done analysing his performances closely in recent times,” Edu explained.

“With his all-round game and positive aggressive style, he will be a brilliant addition to our squad. We’ve made a strong start to the season and we want to continue to build on this with Thomas now part of our club,” the Arsenal director continued.

For Gunners boss Mikel Arteta, he sees Partey as a great addition to the team due to his work ethic and experience.

“We have been watching Thomas for a while, so we’re now delighted to add such a high quality player to our squad. He is a dynamic midfielder with great energy,” Arteta said.

Partey had been a steady contributor for Atletico Madrid. During his time with Atleti, he was part of the winning lineup of the Europa League in 2018 and the UEFA Supercup in 2019.

“He brings a lot of experience from a top club that has competed at the highest level in La Liga and the Champions League for several years,” Arteta said of the Ghanaian midfielder.

Having someone with the professionalism of Partey onboard will benefit Arsenal as the club is looking to garner more momentum in this season's Premier League.

“We’re very impressed with his attitude and his approach to the game. He’s an intelligent footballer and we’re looking forward to him integrating into our system and contributing to the progress we’re building at the moment at the club,” Arteta said.

The Gunners are currently fourth in the Premier League table. Arsenal will face Manchester City on Saturday, Oct. 17 at the Etihad Stadium.
