  • A Cantwell move to Newcastle gains steam after the midfielder was left out of Norwich City's FA Cup match
  • The Magpies have held talks with Norwich City, but nothing official has been announced
  • Eddie Howe is looking for more people to fill the void left by injured Newcastle players

Todd Cantwell has been linked to a possible move to Newcastle United, but nothing has been set in stone.

However, the 23-year-old midfielder was conspicuously left out of the FA Cup match with Charlton Athletic, raising questions on something that may be possibly being in the works.

The English midfielder has been linked to a possible move to St. James Park according to the Telegraph.

Newcastle United has allegedly been holding talks with Norwich City. It is believed that the Canaries are open to parting ways with the English player if the bid made is around the £20 million ($27.17 million) mark.

While that could explain his omission from the FA Cup match of Norwich against Charleston, nothing concrete has come out of the said talks.

Hence, Michael Bailey of The Athletic suspected that something may be brewing unless a report comes out explaining the move such as a potential health issue.

Cantwell has been quietly carving a name for himself in the English Premier League.

With the Canaries, Cantwell is considered a capable midfielder. Last season, he scored six goals and was tagged as one of the team’s best players.

It should be noted that the Magpies are not the only team interested in possibly securing the services of Cantwell.

Also linked to the English footballer are Leeds United and Aston Villa.

It may all boil down to the best bid for Cantwell’s services.

If that is the case, Newcastle United may be in the best position to offer something lucrative.

The Magpies are expected to make a big splurge this January transfer window, thanks to the backing of their new owners.

They have already signed Kierran Trippier, but there are plenty of other targets Eddie Howe has on his list.

Among the names mentioned on that list include Diego Carlos, Dominick Solanke and Divock Origi.

The Magpies need all the help they can get with several positions needing to be filled. Callum Wilson is sidelined due to injury and is expected to miss several weeks.
