  • Arsenal is close to acquiring Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan
  • Inter Milan prefers to sell off Martinez than Romelu Lukaku
  • Martinez is believed to be interested to join Arsenal

Arsenal appears to be well on its way to securing Inter Milan star Lautaro Martinez.

The Gunners have an ambitious bid of getting the 23-year-old striker from I Nerazzurri, The Telegraph reported. Martinez appears open to the idea of moving to the Emirates Stadium, the only team so far to make contact with the player.

Martinez and Romelu Lukaku are two players on the radar of several teams. But between the two, it appears Inter Milan is more inclined to sell off the Argentine player over the Belgium striker.

The interest in Martinez is understandable. He has been performing well for I Nerazzurri, leaving a club that can offer a chance to play in the UEFA Champions League.

But if Martinez does end up moving to Arsenal, that would severely dampen any hope of seeing Chelsea snag Lukaku.

Inter Milan would not have to sell off the Belgian player to the Blues, a thought that would hurt the side of Mikel Arteta.

With Inter Milan seeking a huge £100 million ($139 million) exchange for Lukaku, Chelsea would need to come up with a package for I Nerazzurri to agree.

According to the Guardian, the Blues tried to offer £85 million ($118 million) along with Marco Alonso to Inter Milan for Lukaku.

The pitch was thumbed down, but Chelsea is likely to try again with an improved offer.

The Gunners are in the lead. So far, there appears to be no other club chasing the Inter Milan striker.

When Eurosport’s Dean Jones appeared on The Football Terrace podcast, the pundit felt that Martinez would be a good fit with Manchester City. However, the Citizens do not appear interested at the moment.
