KEY POINTS

  • Barcelona is linked to a possible move for Youri Tielemans of Leicester City
  • The Foxes are working on a new deal that includes a hefty release clause for Tielemans
  • Tielemans also draw interest from Manchester United, Liverpool and Real Madrid

Barcelona is now starting to jot down its potential targets in the next summer transfer window.

It appears they have their sights set on Youri Tielemans of Leicester City, someone they could target nearly 11 months from now.

The report came from Mundo Deportivo, alleging the Catalans are keeping tabs on the progress of the Belgian midfielder.

Barca is in the market for a box-to-box schemer, and the 24-year-old footballer appears to be fit for that need.

It may also be best to note that head coach Ronald Koeman is a fan of the Belgian player and would love to have Tielemans on board next season.

Given that Barca failed in its chase for Gini Wijnaldum of Liverpool, who opted to stick it out with Paris Saint-Germain, the 24-year-old appears to be the new apple of the eye of Koeman.

However, this will also depend on whether the Foxes are interested in a deal involving the midfielder.

Acquired in 2019 from Monaco, Tielemans has made 92 English Premier League appearances. He has had 113 outings across all competitions and has amassed 18 goals. One of those scores came during last season’s FA Cup final win.

It would be best to also note that Barcelona is not the only club that has expressed interest in TIelemans.

Manchester United, Liverpool and Real Madrid have also been linked to him, and there is a chance that these clubs could rekindle interest next summer as well.

For now, Tielemans is expected to focus on his stint with the Foxes. He remains a vital part of Brendan Rodgers' team.

Moreover, he has two years left in his current contract.

Leicester City is expected to address his contract situation moving forward. Some negotiations reportedly took place in the offseason although nothing was made official.

However, there are claims that the Foxes are considering handing Tielemans a new deal.

According to outlet Walfoot, a release clause allegedly amounting to £80 million ($110 million) would be set should the new deal be sealed.

If so, this would turn off growing interest in the Belgian moving forward.
