KEY POINTS

  • West Ham United showed no interest in Ruben Loftus-Cheek of Chelsea
  • Loftus-Cheek cracking Tuchel’s midfield rotation will not be easy
  • Chelsea fans are hoping to see Loftus-Cheek recall his old form

Now that the transfer window has closed, most are trying to see the “what ifs” that could have gone down between teams.

It appears one player who was offered was Ruben Loftus-Cheek of Chelsea.

According to reports, the 25-year-old player was offered by the Blues to West Ham United. Unfortunately, the Hammers refused to take him off Chelsea’s hands.

Details on the alleged Loftus-Cheek offer were not given in the report. Instead, the Hammers signed Alex Kral from Spartak Moscow.

Hence, all Loftus-Cheek can do right now is to hope for the best. He has yet to be integrated into Thomas Tuchel’s plans.

The 25-year-old has played 82 first-team games for the Blues since coming through the academy.

However, he has had a rough go in the last couple of years. That includes dealing with injuries and having to prove himself on loan.

Loftus-Cheek played last season with Fulham on loan where he was branded as powerful and technically gifted by former Fulham manager Scott Parker.

Regardless of that complement from Parker, the reality is that it may not be enough for him to be integrated into the plans of Tuchel.

That all starts by going all out during training and hopefully getting the attention of the German coach.

It won’t be easy for Loftus-Cheek considering he would have to contend with several others in the midfield. That list includes N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic and Saul Niguez.

“Chelsea now has four really brilliant options in the middle of the park and Tuchel needs options around the pitch,” according to talkSPORT presenter Jason Cundy. “If you look at his squad, that’s what he has.”

The English footballer is one of the crowd darlings in Chelsea over the years. Most are still hoping for him to rediscover his old form and hopefully fit in with Tuchel’s system.

As for West Ham United, it appears David Moyes is already content with the players in the fold.
