KEY POINTS

  • Newcastle United is reportedly not in the lead for Luis Diaz’s services
  • The Blues are exploring the true status of Luis Diaz, with multiple teams keeping tabs
  • Porto will likely ask for a hefty fee to agree to a transfer

Chelsea continues to find key pieces for its roster, and it appears the latest one is Luis Diaz of FC Porto.

The Blues are another team linked to the 24-year-old winger--with Newcastle United considered one of the teams possibly talking deal with the Colombian’s group.

With time to spare, the Blues may have launched their inquiry on the Colombian winger to check out the real score.

The Blues and the Saudi-backed Magpies are just two of the multiple teams interested in the services of the Porto winger.

Other teams who are keeping tabs on the situation of Diaz reportedly include Real Madrid, Tottenham and Barcelona.

However, inquiries on the services of the Colombian footballer will have to go through Pini Zahavi.

Apparently, he has left it to the hands of Zahavi to handle negotiations to figure out his next move.

But at the top of it all is settling the release clause of Diaz. The Colombian has a £67.7 million ($92.29 million) release clause in his current contract.

The growing interest in Diaz is understandable. He has been performing well this 2021-22 campaign, already scoring seven goals in the 12 games where he has played. That includes six goals in nine league outings.

Overall, Diaz has a total of 32 goals and 14 assists to his credit in 109 appearances since moving from Colombian outfit Junior FC in 2019.

One thing going for Chelsea is that while Newcastle United has been linked to Diaz, no formal discussions have been formally done, the Record via Sport Witness reported.

The report also added that the Magpies are not considered at the forefront of the chase for Diaz’s signature, something that could help the Blues in their pursuit of the Colombian winger.

Whether it is the Blues or Magpies, one thing is certain, Porto will want a handsome sum to agree to a deal.

For now, Diaz remains a vital part of Sérgio Conceição. They have a good chance of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League group.
