KEY POINTS

  • Chelsea is making a splash this summer
  • Erling Haaland has long been linked to a move to Chelsea
  • Dortmund did not expect to be offered this much for Haaland

Consistent English Premier League powerhouse Chelsea is looking to make a splash this transfer window, and they are swinging for the fences.

It was reported in the past that the Blues have been targeting Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, but this time, they may be set on making an offer that the German side may not be able to refuse.

90min reports that Chelsea is prepared to make a bid of £150 million ($206.8 million) for Haaland this summer--with the hopes that Dortmund will accept the offer.

The 20-year-old Norwegian still has a year left in his contract that will make him available for just £68 million ($93.77 million) next summer, so the smarter play for Dortmund might be to sell Haaland while clubs are willing to offer a massive amount for his services.

Chelsea’s priority this summer has always been to sign a pure striker that can repeatedly score goals with ease.

Despite spending over £120 million ($165.5 million) last year on Timo Werner and Kai Havertz, the club is still in need of a striker as 34-year-old Olivier Giroud is expected to move on from Stamford Bridge. Meanwhile, Tommy Abraham is good enough to be on the squad but not exactly what they’re looking for right now.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was previously targeting a return for Romelu Lukaku, but Inter’s decision to sell Achraf Hakimi to Paris Saint-Germain dashed all hopes that the Belgian will return to Chelsea.

It has also been reported previously that Haaland and Chelsea have come to personal terms with the Norwegian more than excited to come back home to London as he was born in Leeds.

For Dortmund, this summer transfer window has been an eventful one, to say the least, as the club has finally completed the £73 million ($100.7 million) sale of Jadon Sancho to Manchester United after a lengthy transfer saga.

The German side has previously been headstrong in keeping Haaland in the Bundesliga as they hoped that their £100 million ($137.9 million) valuation of him will stave off interested parties from making a bid.

However, 90min also reported that the situation may have changed for Dortmund as they did not expect to have a massive offer on their table this summer for Haaland.

Should Haaland be sold to Chelsea, Manchester City’s hopes at repeating as Premier League champions could be in danger.
