KEY POINTS

  • Ross Barkley could suit up with a new club as early as the January transfer window
  • Barkley and Loftus-Cheek are among Chelsea players on Newcastle United’s shortlist
  • Burnley and Leeds are also in the hunt for Barkley’s services

Ross Barkley of Chelsea is one of the few names who could explore the market as early as the January transfer window.

This early, multiple teams have expressed interest in the English midfielder.

Currently on loan to Aston Villa, the clubs interested in Barkley’s services include Burnley, Leeds United and Newcastle United, per 90 min's report.

The 27-year-old has hardly gotten any luck making the first team of Chelsea, and his loan spell only adds to that frustration.

Aston Villa surprisingly passed up the chance to make Barkley’s move permanent, despite appearing in 24 matches in the English Premier League.

This may be partly because the club brought in Norwich's Emiliano Buendia and Bayer Leverkusen's Leon Bailey in big-money deals after losing Jack Grealish to Manchester City.

Regardless, the belief is that Barkley will leave Stamford Bridge with hopes of hooking up with a new team where he can get better chances of being in the first team.

That possibility could be whittled down to three teams who appear bent on adding him to their respective sides.

Burnley is reportedly determined to seal a deal in January although the offer will need to be acceptable and something that would fend off offers from other clubs.

The other clubs in the race for Barkley’s signature are Leeds United and Newcastle United.

Of the two, a curious eye would be on the Magpies who are now under new management.

A Saudi-backed consortium officially took over Newcastle United last October 7, and one of their immediate goals is to infuse fresh talent as early as the January transfer window.

The Magpies have a shortlist of candidates they plan to pursue, and it appears Barkley is included.

Aside from him, another Chelsea player on the list is said to be Ruben Loftus-Cheek, 90 min mentioned in another report.

Once officially done, it may be the break that Barkley has been looking for.
