  • N'Golo Kante could be coming to Manchester United if he cannot come to terms with Chelsea
  • Fabrizio Romano has confirmed new manager Erik ten Hag's interest in Kante
  • Manchester United's tumultuous 2021-22 season could give way to a brighter 2022-23 campaign

Manchester United fans are still reeling from the disastrous campaign that was the 2021-22 season, but hope can be renewed in the upcoming transfer window.

World-renowned transfer maestro Fabrizio Romano recently spoke with The United Stand about the possibility of seeing Chelsea central midfielder N’Golo Kante this summer, saying that there is a chance he comes over if contract talks fall through with his current team.

“It is true that Erik ten Hag is a big fan of N’Golo Kante. Like [Barcelona midfielder] Frenkie De Jong, he is the kind of player who can change the whole team,” said Romano.

“He is not just a normal signing, he is someone who can really change the structure of the team and the mentality of the dressing room.”

Manchester United was forced to endure another season of mediocrity despite welcoming back their prodigal son in the form of Cristiano Ronaldo.

A tumultuous season marred by injury, management issues, questionable signings, and multiple locker room issues derailed what many Red Devils fans hoped to be their return to a top-four finish in the English Premier League.

The Red Devils closed out their season with back-to-back losses to Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace, forcing them to settle for a sixth-place finish with 58 points–13 away from the fourth-place Tottenham Hostpurs.

The finish puts them in qualification for a spot in the group stages of the UEFA Europa League.

But with the April 21 announcement of Erik ten Hag as the new manager for next season, fans are expecting big things from him, the club, and its players as they look to bounce back.

Signing Kante would be a great way to improve on their midfield depth, something that had been a glaring problem throughout the season as the combination of Brazil’s Fred and Englishman Scott McTominay produced lukewarm results.

With Kante having turned 31 this past March, Manchester United fans have voiced their concerns about his age and whether he would be a worthwhile signing for them.

The Frenchman dealt with multiple injuries in his four-year stint with Chelsea, and it is a valid concern for most fans.

However, signing him to their midfield would bring a different level of effort and winning mentality to Old Trafford while also further creating depth in the position.

With a new manager on board and then-interim manager Ralf Rangnick serving in an advisory role, big changes could be coming to the Theatre of Dreams for the 2022-23 season.
