Trevor Noah has filed a lawsuit against a hospital and doctor in New York City after they allegedly botched a surgery the comedian underwent last year.

Noah, 37, sued Dr. Riley J. Williams and the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in Manhattan, according to court documents filed in the New York Supreme Court and obtained by Page Six.

The 37-year-old "Daily Show" host alleged in the lawsuit that the hospital and orthopedic surgeon were "were negligent and careless in failing to treat and care for [him] in a careful and skillful manner" when he underwent surgery on Nov. 23 last year.

Noah was a patient of Williams between Aug. 25, 2020, and Dec. 17, 2020, per the lawsuit.

The lawsuit accused the hospital and surgeon of failing to "prescribe proper medications" and "discontinue certain prescription medications." The defendants also allegedly failed to do proper testing in order to "diagnose the conditions" he was suffering from, the documents said.

Noah allegedly suffered "serious personal injury" after his surgery, and his injuries were described in the lawsuit as "permanent, severe and grievous." The injuries allegedly left the Emmy award winner "rendered sick, sore, lame and disabled."

The lawsuit also alleged that the South African comedian sustained severe nervous shock, mental anguish, severe emotional distress and great physical pain from the operation. Noah was allegedly "confined to bed and home for a long period of time," People reported, citing the legal complaint.

The documents also claimed that Noah "has suffered a loss of enjoyment of life." Some of the TV host's injuries were allegedly "permanent," thus he "will continue to suffer similar damages in the future," the suit said.

The paperwork did not state what procedure Noah underwent. However, Williams' hospital profile states that he "specializes in knee, shoulder and elbow" surgery.

A spokesperson for the Hospital of Special Surgery confirmed to People that they received Noah's complaint but called the host's claims "meritless."

"HSS received a complaint filed on behalf of Mr. Trevor Noah. We have shared with Mr. Noah's attorney a detailed rebuttal to the claims, which are meritless," the representative said in a statement. "Due to HIPAA we are restricted by law from addressing publicly specific aspects of the treatment of any patient."

The hospital added that it is "committed to excellence in the care they provide to patients. The rep also said that HSS was "the world's leading academic medical center specialized in musculoskeletal health, consistently ranked #1 in orthopedics globally and nationally."
