President Donald Trump acknowledged the possibility of a divided government and how he might use his veto powers should the Democrats win the Senate and the House in the midterm elections.

"I will end up being a blocker — I'll block all their bad stuff for two years," Trump told Fox News' Laura Ingraham. "I'll be a blocker, what can I tell you? I'll probably be able to make deals with them. They are going to want some stuff. You make deals. It's one of those things."

The Cook Political Report currently has 185 seats safe for Democrats and another 21 seats as "likely" or "lean" Democrat in the midterms. That would give Democrats 206 of the 218 seats they would need to win the House. Although those numbers seem favorable, Democrats would still have to win 12 of 21 toss-up races to hit the figure, the bare minimum for a majority.

In the Senate, Democrats would have to win four of six toss-up Senate races to win 51 seats. Republicans can technically retain control at 50 seats since Vice President JD Vance is the tie-breaking vote.

Although once thought unlikely that Democrats could flip enough seats to win the Senate, positive polls in places like Texas have changed that narrative. For example, an AARP poll released this week had Texas Democrat James Talarico leading Republican Ken Paxton by 4 points. Although Texas has favored Republicans politically for decades, Talarico has consistently led Paxton in polls over the past weeks.

Trump acknowledged the reality of the political landscape and the fact that the sitting president's party often performs poorly in midterm elections.

Trump told Ingraham, however, that he did not regret any of his decisions or policies. For example, the Iran war has consistently polled poorly, with most Americans regularly saying they disapprove of the conflict.

"I don't believe in the word regret," Trump told Ingraham. "You can always question yourself a little bit. And a few people have asked me that. If I had it to do again, I'd do exactly as I did."
