  • Some netizens found Middleton's black and white photo too old-fashioned
  • Other online users praised the Duchess of Cambridge's birthday pictures

Kate Middleton just turned 40 years old, so three stunning photos of the duchess were released to mark the milestone.

Kensington Palace released three special portraits Saturday to mark the Duchess of Cambridge's birthday on Sunday. Photographer Paolo Roversi captured the pictures in November.

In the first photo, Middleton gave a vintage vibe in the black and white portrait where she rocked an elegant chiffon gown that she matched with Princess Diana's diamond and pearl drop earrings. She also ditched her signature bouncy blowouts for more refined curls. It received mixed responses from the netizens, with some loving it and others finding it too old-fashioned.

"Not good. Makes her look about 60. It's far too old-fashioned. Honestly how many 40-year-olds would dress like that for a shoot. No atmosphere. Typical house of Windsor. Look at how they dressed Georgie for the euro final last summer. Very odd outdated institution," one commented on Middleton's first picture.

"You know, I thought the same!! I have seen far better photos of her," another agreed.

"They need to get their money back. This photographer clearly needs to invest in some new equipment gents as it hasn't been updated in over two hundred years," a third user added.

Meanwhile, many others showed love for the picture. For them, the future queen consort looked stunning in the shot, and they couldn't help but gush over her.

"Your Royal Highness you look absolutely stunning. I wish you all the best for your birthday and in the year to come. Thank you for all you do. #KateAt40," one fan wrote.

"I'm speechless, this image is simply iconic and will go down in history! I really don't know how to react, I'm just mesmerized by the beauty, elegance and perfection of this portrait of the Duchess of Cambridge," a second Cambridge supporter added.

"The most stunning portrait I have ever seen! Blown away. Must be magnificent to see in person. #KateAt40," a third user commented.

The second picture showed Prince William's wife beaming in her full-on glam look. She was all smiles in her one-shoulder red satin dress with a dramatic puff sleeve and a pocket. In the third picture, Middleton smiled straight at the camera in another one-shoulder dress. She looked stunning in the portrait, according to the netizens.

Throughout 2022, Middleton's photos will be displayed in three places close to her heart — Berkshire, St. Andrews and Anglesey. The duchess grew up in Bucklebury, Berkshire. St. Andrews was where she studied and met her husband, Prince William. Meanwhile, Anglesey was where the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge lived after tying the knot in 2011.
